The box it came in.

A classic moment this morning. Ari is sitting up really well now and looking for toys. So I filled a little round box with a few little things that he could play with. I sat it down in front of him and took off the lid. He looked at it. Picked up the box, turned it upside down and tipped everything out, then played with the box! ... Now even though he is actually playing with the things, the box seems to maintain his curiosity.

Yesterday we introduced him to the Jolly Jumper which was hilarious. He still needs to figure out just what its for though. And also a fabulous musical piano that lights up when he plays it, which he is fascinated with. A little maestro.

His favourite book at the moment: Lost and Found by Oliver Jeffers.

Bubbles, Fairylights and a Happy Little Pumpkin

Things after the fires have been pretty sad in our state. Can't imagine how long standing and far reaching the effects and the grief will be for so many.

But in our little world things are sweet. Ari is being the most divine little pumpkin. After a little stint of crying himself to sleep each night while demanding that I be in the room stroking his face, he has finally come around to settling himself again. And in the end all it took was leaving on his little string of lights from Grandma and Papa. It must be a security thing, he's quite happy to chat to himself until he goes to sleep while we potter around in the kitchen getting dinner. The first night he did it I was so happy I could cry, such a nice end to the day. He is a happy little boy and we love him.

Yesterday we introduced him to bubbles and he was happy to sit there for nearly an hour watching them dance around the room and *pop* disappear into the air. He would try to catch them as they floated near. The look on his face was priceless. Little darling.

So tonight we ate pasta with fresh tomatoes and basil from the garden and I'm going to watch Rockwiz and make myself go to bed earlier - am starting to need to catch up on sleep! Domestic bliss.

SOMETHING COOL

Its so very hot here and no end in sight as yet ... tonight we all got really hot and bothered by 5 o'clock so we ran Ari a cool bath which he splashed in enthusiastically for a while. Half of me kinda ended up in the bath as well and it was delightful. We all cooled down. Yum. If only water wasn't quite so precious I would quite happily have jumped in and out of a cool shower all day.

So now nothing to do but try to sleep. Lots of water. No ice cream (bummer). And try to get my head around any number of hot hot hot days to come. Peeeeee-yoo.

Also, these are cute and I want them.

Currently in a cool room in a cool house (I meantemperature, not style) that will soon heat up in the BIGGEST HEAT WAVE SINCE 1908 PEOPLE.

Will I make the journey home to an even hotter town, but to a house with cooling (that will admittedly struggle in this heat)?

Meh. Meh.

Goose Pimply All Over

Sorry - on a YouTube stint. Really hot days always remind me of The Seven Year Itch. Something else that gives me endless joy. I really wanted to find the scene where Marilyn talks about various ways to possibly stay cool (perfection) but alas the video has been removed... So it had to be Rachmaninov. Not a bad second in the favourite scene stakes. It shakes me. It quakes me. Every time I see it I go to pieces. Miss Piggy I love you, but I will always love Marilyn more.

That's enough from me, I'm tired and my Mad Men obsession awaits (along with some fresh raspberries....).

Oh P.S!! My boy has a fair dinkum tooth coming through his cut little gum! *ouch*
